The Beatles led the mid-1960s musical "British Invasion" into the United States. Although their initial musical style was rooted in 1950s rock and roll and homegrown skiffle, the group explored genres ranging from Tin Pan Alley to psychedelic rock. Their clothes, styles, and statements made them trend-setters, while their growing social awareness saw their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s.
The Beatles were the greatest and most influential act of the rock era, and introduced more innovations into popular music than any other rock band of the 20th century. Moreover, they were among the few artists of any discipline that were simultaneously the best at what they did and the most popular at what they did. Relentlessly imaginative and experimental, the Beatles grabbed a hold of the international mass consciousness in 1964 and never let go for the next six years, always staying ahead of the pack in terms of creativity but never losing their ability to communicate their increasingly sophisticated ideas to a mass audience. Their supremacy as rock icons remains unchallenged to this day, decades after their breakup in 1970.

Paradox6: Props to the one guy that's seen The Beatles
Ben: I know! I wish I could have seen The Beatles in concert. I would be screaming like a 15 yr old girl. I've seen a few cover bands and I'm always tempted to scream. ;-)
Zach: boo the Beatles. The Beatles were the first boy band. They can go to hell. Psuedo-intellectual pop-icon bastards.
Tess to Zach: boo you
